Why a certain color on St. Patrick's day?  
It is rumored that green was the color that caused us to be visible for leprechauns to  see us and if people were not wearing green then the leprechauns would go after you.

It also celebrates the arrival of Christianity in Ireland. There are a lot of rumors and myths about St. Patrick and one of those myths was the fact that he banished the snakes from Ireland. He was taken from a raid at only age 16 and then used religion to calm himself.
